Toshiba Satellite L450 BIOS Password Reset

Here we gonna show how to reset bios password on a Toshiba Satellite L450.

The procedure mean that we need to open the laptop so we can find the CMOS battery and short circuit the battery so can clear the CMOS.

!!! First, remove the notebook battery and the power source for safety.

So we begin with this:

Remove the cover for keyboard screws. Underneath the keyboard is  attached with 2 screws:

After removing the screws, you need to detach the flat cable so you can completely remove the keyboard:

After that, you need to remove the screws underneath the keyboard:

After that you need to remove all the screws from the down side of the laptop:

After that, you  can remove the upper mask, and here is the battery:

Now we short circuit the battery:

This step can be done and with other tools who are also conductive. With this, we have clear the CMOS.

Next we assemble the removed parts (make this steps backward), and the laptop is ready for work:

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba U205 S5057 with a bios lock. I have searched every where and am unable to find a reset. I believe that the cmos battery plugs in and is located on the lower right side of mother board and has a two pin male molex connector. I removed this for two days and it did not reset the bios. Unless there is another battery somewhere which I am unable to locate, this fix is not going to work.

Every thing that I’ve found which is very limited tells me that it’s either a short across a pair of solder points or a short from ground to a solder point. If that is the case, would you happen to know where this is located on the mother board if I am right and which method to use to reset the bios.

If I’m wrong, do you have any idea how to reset bios on this machine? I really need a little help before I short a chip and ruin the mother board.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi. I have the L450D Toshiba as shown in the above instructions. I went through the instructions very carefully. I de-soldered the Cmos battery and bridged across both terminals. Re-soldered it and put it all back together. Its quite a straight forward thing to do. My problem now i9s that I have no screen at all, just black or blank. The drive is powering up inside as dpes the cD if 1 is in there but nothing showing.
Any ideas. I am a bit stumped now. I’ve had a lot of experience at soldering and general fixing items so am not a novice but I have made sure nothing is displaced.
      Thanks

L450d-12x bios password can be removed by firstly removing main battery and charger and hold power button down for 10 secs to remove excess charge, then open ram cover and remove ram modules, then under the white sticker is a copper terminal called J1, it’s actually 2 very small terminals arranged to look like a square, they are lacquered so u may need to scratch them first to get a good contact, just short these together for a few secs and voila! I actually did this today after losing my bios password so I know it works.

Also if you get black screen, you’ve probably not seated ram correctly, make sure it clicks into place correctly and this should sort the problem ( unless mobo is damaged somehow)

Do you measure the voltage of the battery? Maybe you need to replace the CMOS battery if the voltage is too low.

Thanks! If it doesn’t work at first, try shorting the battery for a longer period of time. For me it took 25-30 sec.
