In our previous posts we explain the Intel Trusted Execution Technology. Here we gonna explain about this update from Microsoft.

The Windows Driver Frameworks (WDF) is a set of libraries that you can use to write device drivers that run on the Windows operating system. WDF defines a single driver model that is supported by two frameworks: Kernel-Mode Driver Kernel Mode Driver Framework (KMDF) and User-Mode Driver Framework (UMDF). KMDF\UMDF are provided by Microsoft to allow component drivers to leverage the framework to minimize what is needed to be included with the driver. This is great for the IT Professional until a driver is written to a specific version of the KMDF\UMDF which your system may not currently support. This happened previously with Windows Vista and is now being seen on some Windows 7 64-bit systems that do not have the 1.11 version of KMDF and the 1.11 version of UMDF.

The material that is used feels like the old (legendary) IBM Thinkpad series, and it looks very tough. The keyboard is good, also and display and touchpad feels good.

But most interesting feature that we found is “Fun Dust Extraction”. This tool is a part from Lenovo Energy Management Software and activate the fan periodically at full speed so hot it can blow the dust. This is shown in the next video.

This is a good feature, but we need to really test how it will work. we hope that more innovative features will come with the new models.

If you need the drivers and applications for this model for Windows 7 operating system you can find on THIS LINK.
The post Lenovo G505 Energy Management first appeared on Laptopish.com.

Recently after installing Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit version on Compaq CQ58 laptop i noticed that work a little slow. When i click on a System Properties, i see that there is only a 929MB Usable Memory, even if the laptop have a 2GB of RAM.

As i search on the internet, i see that this problem have the CQ58 models with Intel processors with F.34 BIOS. So the fix is BIOS Update.

This the LINK to the HP official site from where you can download this fix. HP have named “SP60945” and this is the release note for it.

Just in case – this is backlink for download SP60945.

After the download you begin the installation with double click and follow the instructions.

!!! Very important here to say is that with this you can damage your computer. If you are not sure what you are doing better to not do this, and take your laptop to the service.

Also, is you made this procedure, you need your battery to be 100% charged and the adapter to be plugged in.

When you begin with the installation the fan will turn on to the max rpm. When the installation begin you just “seat and relax”. When all is complete the laptop will restart by itself. When it start again there is one more procedure to complete and after that it will start the Windows.

Check in System Properties. Now it should be ok and the laptop work more quick than before.
The post Compaq CQ58 929MB usable RAM memory first appeared on Laptopish.com.

In our previous post we explain that the cooling of the laptop is crucial for laptop to work properly.

Here we gonna explain how with using of a notepal can lower the temperature of the laptop even more.

When the laptop is working it’s heats up. The notebook fan cools down the main components, but actually all other components are passive cooled.

If you have noticed, after a long usage of the laptop the surface where the laptop is placed is getting heated.

The notepal actually do this thing. Only with raising the laptop from the surface, the laptop have a little lower temperature from the bottom.

There are two types of notepals:

Passive (without fan)

Active (with fan)

The passive notepals are also called notebook stand because the main function is raise the laptop from the surface and on this way to lower the temperature of the laptop.

On the next picture we have shown an example of this type of notepals.

The active notepals have a built fan inside the notepal, who help the lower the temperature of the laptop even more. This type of notepals get power from the laptop through the USB port, or from external source.

The active notepals are lot more effective than the passive ones.

On the next picture we have shown an example of this type of notepals.

The using of notepal is crucial for the lifetime of the laptop. The lifetime of an electronic component is getting short by double with every 10 Degrees of higher working temperature. So, if you can use your notepal always with your laptop, if not, at least at the hot summer days.
The post Why using of notepal is essential for your laptop first appeared on Laptopish.com.

Here we have a Toshiba Satellite A100. When it was brought to the service, it won’t even start. The power button LED go ON, but there was nothing on the display. We disassemble the laptop on we see that there was lot of dust on the cooler, so the laptop was overheated. We clean the cooler from the dust and make a rework on the chipset. After assembling, the laptop start normally, but there was error that says: “Resource Conflict – PCI Network Controller on Motherboard”, as we see from the picture.

This error means that there is no resource to allocate the Network Controller. Probably this is consequence of the overheated chipset. As i read on the forums, some people says that you should load the BIOS defaults so how the bios can automatically allocate the resources. This make sense, but didn’t work for me.

I even try to disable the Network Controller and the Touchpad, but again i receive the same error on the beginning.

How i solve the problem:

– I remove the modem.

You don’t have a need of 56k modem when you have a 100Mbps LAN and 56Mbps WLAN.

After removing the modem and load BIOS defaults, the laptop starts normally without any error.
The post Resource Conflict – PCI Network Controller on Motherboard solved first appeared on Laptopish.com.

Here we gonna explain how to install Windows XP on a laptop with AHCI Controller, with help of the USB floppy drive.

Next, we need to have the right AHCI driver for our AHCI Controller. The content of the driver we copy on the floppy diskete drive (from 1.4MB). Here on the next picture is given a example how it should like the content on the floppy.

After this step, we put the floppy disk in the floppy disk drive, plug the drive in the USB port of the laptop and we start the laptop.

Next we enter in the BIOS. Make sure that “SATA Mode” is set to be “AHCI”, and first boot device is CD.

We place the genuine Windows XP CD in the CD-ROM drive, we save the BIOS changes and Exit.

Next will be promt “Press any key to boot from CD…”. We press some key from the keyboard, and quickly after the blue background will be shown, on the bottom of the screen we gonna see a text message “Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver . . . ” Here we press F6 button on the keyboard.

After loading the Windows XP files the setup will stop at this screen:

Here we press “S” on the keyboard, to specify the driver from the floppy. It will be shown a list of drivers that are on the floppy:

Usually there is a list of two drivers, one for 32 bit operating system (x86), and one for 64 bit operating system (x64). We select the correct driver from the list and press Enter to continue with the installation.

After this step the installation is the same as standard Windows XP installation.

In many circumstances when we don’t have, or we have a bad optical drive on the laptop it is useful to кnow how to install a Windows from the usb flash drive.

The first thing we need to do is to make the usb flash drive bootable and import the Windows files on the usb flash drive.

For this case we use the software Novicorp Win to Flash. The latest version you can download from the Novicorp’s official site.

This software you can use for all Windows versions (XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8).

After downloading and extracting the .rar file we have this files in the directory:

We start the software from the WinToFlash.exe file assigned on the previous picture.

This is the main screen of the software:

We begin the procedure by clicking on the “Windows Setup Transfer Wizard” button, as shown on the previous picture.

After this, will be opened a new window, and here we click “Next”, as shown on the next picture.

After this we come to the crucial point. We need to select source and destination targets.

As shown on the next picture, by clicking on the upper “Select” button, new window is opened and here we should select the Drive that contain the Windows files. The drive can be the optical drive with previously inserted CD or DVD, or virtual drive with previously mounted Windows image file.

With this done, next we need to select the USB flash drive (destination), as shown on the next picture.

With this step finished, we click “Next” as shown on the next picture.

Next we will be ask for Licence Agreement. We select “I do accept the terms of the licence agreement” and click “Next”.

If the USB flash drive is not formatted, we gonna receive a warning that says that all the data from the USB flash drive will be lost. We click “Continue” at this step because there is no important data on the USB flash drive.

After this, the procedure will take a while and when is it finish we have this:

Here we click “Next” and on the next window we click “Exit”.

With this step the procedure of making the USB flash drive is finished.

Next thing we need to do is to insert this USB flash drive in the laptop, enter in the BIOS and setup the “First Boot Device” to be “USB” or “Removable”.

After this the installation is the same as standard installation with CD or DVD.
The post Install Windows from a USB flash drive first appeared on Laptopish.com.

AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) is standard defined by Intel that specifies the operation of SATA host bus adapters. AHCI is developed as improvement of SATA interface so how can improve the capabilities of the system.

Because the AHCI standard is newer that the Windows XP, there are no AHCI drivers in the driver pack of the Windows XP. How we can install Windows XP, we need to have the correct AHCI driver. Without this driver we cannot install Windows XP with AHCI support. In this case, we can install Windows XP in IDE mode, but we loose the benefits from AHCI controller, and we have lower data transfer from/to the hard disk drive.

There are three ways to install Windows XP with AHCI support:

1. Install Windows XP without AHCI support and install the AHCI driver after the installation.

2. Install the AHCI driver from floppy during the Windows XP installation (“F6 floppy”).

3. Integrate the AHCI drivers in the Windows XP orginal CD driver pack, ad install the Windows XP with modified Windows XP CD.

The case from number 1 is the simplest and we gonna present here for ACER Aspire 5750Z. The cases from number 2 and 3 are more complex (especially 3) and gonna be presented in some later writings.

Now we gonna show how to install Windows XP with AHCI support. First we install Windows without AHCI support, and the AHCI driver is installed after the installation. All this procedure is about ACER Aspire 5750Z . But is actually the same for all the laptops but you need to find the corresponding AHCI driver. The AHCI driver we are looking it for the corresponding chipset. As example ACER Aspire 5750Z have a Intel HM65 chipset and we are looking the AHCI driver from the manufacturer’s official site as the AHCI driver for the corresponding chipset.

!!! This is delicate procedure and can easily damage your operating system if any error is made. So if you have any important data on your laptop first make backup your data!!!

The first thing we do is to enter in the BIOS.

In the Main menu, by default “SATA Mode” is set to be “AHCI “. We switch it to “IDE Mode”.

Next we install the Windows XP with the original Windows XP CD. After the installation we have this.

We have clean installation of Windows XP. The AHCI driver is downloaded from HERE, and extracted on the Desktop.

Next we open Device Manager (right click on My Computer, then Properties, then Hardware and then Device Manager).

The we click on “IDE/ATAPI Controllers, and this right click on “Primary IDE Channel” and click “Update Driver”.

After this, in the new window we select “No, not at this time”, and then click click “Next”.

After this select “Install from a list of specific location (Advanced)”, and then click “Next”.

Next we look for the file. We have the driver extracted on Desktop. We open the folder by selecting and click “Open”.

After this we click “Next” and the driver will be installed, and in the end we just click “Finish”.

After this the installation of the driver is finished and we need to restart the computer. !!!But don’t forget to enter the BIOS and change the “SATA Mode” to be “AHCI Mode”.

If not there will be shown a “Blue Screen” and the computer will restart. Otherwise the Windows will start normally and the computer will work mush faster.

Let see now the whole procedure trough a picture gallery.

Broken laptop adapter is common failure. So we need to now how to deal with it.

First thing we check is the power cable (cable from the socket to the adapter). If this cable is OK, then we check the adapter.

If the problem is the adapter, there can be a two things: electronics or broken wire.

In most cases the problem is broken wire of the adapter.

The most common places where come to the brake are assigned on the picture:

Here we have a case when the adapter don’t give output voltage, but the LED diode is ON. This suggest that the electronics is fine, but we have broken wire. We carefully inspect the cable and we see that on the side of the connector is suspicious (see the previous picture).

So we cut the cable on the suspicious place, as shown on the next picture:

As you can see from the picture we remove a peace from the cable that is twisted (suspicious).

Next we remove the isolation on the connector.

But, be careful! Do not cut the wire.

As we see from the previous picture, on the place assigned with the red arrow, we can see where the wire was broken.

Next we twist the outside wire and remove the isolation from the inside wire.

We do the same and with the other side of the cable:

On this point we can check the adapter. We plug in the adapter (but be careful do not make a short circuit between the wires assigned with ” + ” and ” – “).

If we measure the voltage, we should measure the voltage assigned on the adapter. If not, this mean that we have additional brake.

We also measure the connector. There should have resistance 0 Ohms between the inside wire and the inside side of the connector and also 0 Ohms between outside wire and outside side of the connector.

If the measures are OK, we connect the both inside wires, and both outside wires.

First we do this with the inside wire:

Then we solder the wires.

After the soldering we cut the excess wire.

After that we apply isolation.

We do the same with the other wire. Firs we connect,

and the we solder the wires together.

But, during the soldering we should pay attention on the isolation, because easy can make short circuit.

After this we apply the outside isolation. After a lot of research, we found the epoxy repair.

The epoxy repair is very good for this application. First, is a good current insulator. Also, it is very strong and secure the wires.

We cut a piece with the scalpel and we squeeze it until the mix become uniform.

Later we apply it on the adapter cable.

The epoxy is shaping like a plasticine.

After this we wait the epoxy to dry. Later, for esthetic reasons we can paint the gray epoxy with a black marker.

The example shown here was for ASUS, who like many others have a two wires. But there are some adapters with the three wires, like DELL and HP. But the procedure is the same.
The post Laptop adapter repair first appeared on Laptopish.com.
