Here we have a SAMSUNG N130 netbook. The problem with this laptop is that it don’t start. After you press (slide) the power button the LED Lights turn ON but the display remains black and you listen only three short beeps. These beeps suggests that we have problem with the RAM memory, so we need to replace the memory module with the new one so how we confirm our suggestion. We begin with removing the memory cover.

After removing the cover, we can reach the RAM memory module. Here worth to mention that by the memory slot there is two pins named “RTC Reset”. By shorting this two pins we actually reset the BIOS settings.

After we replace the memory module, the laptop start but there was only a white picture on the display. So we begin to disassemble the laptop.

We begin with removing the screws on the bottom side that hold the keyboard, assigned as we see from the picture.

After that we can remove the keyboard, as shown on the next picture.

After that, on the next picture are assigned the screws from the bottom side that need to be removed.

After that we can remove the bottom cover as shown on the next picture.

As we see from the next picture the FLAT cable is detached from the connector.

We attach the cable to the connector, and the next thing we need to do is to assemble the laptop.

Let’s Summarize this:

On the startup of the Toshiba laptpop you get this picture that says that you need to enter password. That mean that your BIOS is protected by password. In our previous post we have described how to reset the BIOS password for Toshiba Satellite L450. But here we have a Toshiba Satellite L350 and the situation is a little different.

If you try to reset the BIOS password with shorten the CMOS battery pins you will not succeed to reset the password. I even remove (unsolder) the battery from the motherboard and leave through the night but with no results.

Actually the solution is mush more simple (also work for other Toshiba models).

Firs we locate the cover of the memory modules on the bottom side and remove it. (click to enlarge).

After that we need to remove the memory modules. (click to enlarge).

Next, on the motherboard locate the “XXX” mark. (click to enlarge).

Sometimes the BIOS password will also reset after holding short the two pins “XXX” for a 30 second, but for this model that was not the case. In our case we solder a wire. (click to enlarge).

After that we mount one of the memory modules and start the laptop. That was the way how we succeed to reset the BIOS password. (click to enlarge).

On the start there was no message about the BIOS password. After that you turn off the laptop and remove the soldered wire.
The post Toshiba Satellite L350 BIOS password reset first appeared on Laptopish.com.

Here we gonna present the procedure how to repair a broken power jack on a ASUS X54HY laptop. As a consequence of the broken power jack, the laptop battery don’t charge so the laptop don’t power up after the battery is drained.
Power jack failure is common problem on ASUS X54 series, so here we gonna explain the procedure how to do it yourself .

How to determine that the you have the problem with the power power jack. If your laptop don’t chard the battery, first thing you check is the power adapter. If the output voltage is correct, then we inspect the laptop.

With thin tool we try to move the power jack. If the power jack easily move from its position, that mean that we have problem with the power jack and we need to open the laptop and repair the power jack.

First we need to be sure that the battery and the power source are removed from the laptop.

After that we need to remove the keyboard. There are couple of gouges that hold the keyboard and need to be pressed as shown on the next picture so how can release the keyboard.

On the next picture with red circles are shown the gouges.

After the keyboard is released, we need to detach the flat cable as shown on the next picture.

After that we detach also the two cables assigned with red square and remove the four screws assigned with red circles on the next picture.

After that we flip the laptop from the bottom side.

First remove the two screws on the cover

and after that the cover can easily be removed in the direction of the red arrow.

On the next picture are assigned the screws that need to be removed. Also with the red arrow is assigned the direction of pulling out the hard disk drive. Also at this point we detach the WLAN antennas.

After this step we can remove the upper cover,

and we came to the motherboard.

There are couple cables that need to be detached (assigned with the red squares), and two screws that need to be removed.

After that we can remove the motherboard from the casing.

On the next picture we can see the damaged power jack. There is a crack on the positive wire.

Next we remove the cooling system by removing the assigned screws on the next picture.

We clean the processor and the graphic card from the old thermal paste.

After the cleaning we have this situation.

Now we can solder the cracked wire as its shown on the next picture.

With the job done, we only need to assemble the laptop, but before that, we need to clean the cooler.

Under “cleaning the cooler” we meant to clean the contact surfaces from the old thermal paste and cleaning the cooler grills from the dust.

The post ASUS X54HY Power Jack Repair first appeared on Laptopish.com.

Turn over the laptop.

First remove the battery. On the previous picture the ram memories and the cover are removed. Next is to remove the screws assigned on the picture and remove that cover.

Next we need to remove all screws from the bottom as assigned on the picture. After removing the screws we can remove the hard disk drive and optical drive as assigned with the red arrows.

After this step, we continue with the top side of the laptop.

We remove the cover as assigned on the previous picture with the help of small screw driver as shown on the next picture.

After this, there are two screws that need to be removed so how we can remove the keyboard.

Be careful with the flat cable!

On the next picture is shown how to detach the flat cable.

Next we detach the cables assigned on the picture, but we don’t remove the CMOS battery. The former models of DELL and IBM have Administrator password on the BIOS, so if we remove the CMOS battery we will need to know this password. Because we don’t know it we leave the battery alone.

Next we remove the flat cable for the monitor and all the screws from the top.

After this there are two more cables to remove and the display is completely detached.

After this we can remove the top cover, and we have this situation.

Next thing we do is removing the fans. With the red circles are assigned the screws that need to be removed, and with the red squares are assigned the cables that need to be detached.

After that on the next picture we can see what is the cause of the overheated VGA chip. The coolers are full with dust and there is no air circulation.

With the red circles are assigned the screws that need to be removed so how we can remove the coolers.

After that we have this situation.

Now we need to do a rework of the graphic card (assigned on the picture). We do a rework with a hot air smd rework station.

After the rework, until the chip is cooled down, we clean the coolers and apply thermal adhesive paste.

We mount the coolers and we assemble the laptop in the procedure backward of that we show here.
The post DELL XPS M170 rework first appeared on Laptopish.com.

Here we have a HP Compaq Presario CQ56 with broken display. We need to replace the display. As we see from some previous posts, display replacement of HP Compaq model is very complicated. So here we gonna explain the procedure how to replace the display.

We begin with removing the covers of the RAM memory and the Hard Disk Drive on the bottom of the laptop. On the next picture with the red circles are assigned the screws that need to be removed so how we can remove the covers.

Next we remove the Hard Disk Drive. With red circles are assigned the screws that need to be removed and with the red square is assigned the cable that need to be detached.

On the next picture, with the red circles are assigned the screws that hold the keyboard. With the white arrow is assigned the screw that hold the DVD-RW (optical) drive. These screws need to be removed. With the red arrow are assigned the cables that connects the WLAN antennas, and should be detached.

So we conclude that we need to repair the motherboard (do a rework on the chipset).

Here is the cause of overheating. The cooler is full with dust.

This procedure we gonna explain step by step.

First we do is remove the battery and disconnect the power source from the laptop. Next we remove the assigned screws so how we can remove the covers. The optical drive can be removed by removing the screw assigned with red square and after that pulling in the direction of the arrow.

After this we remove the Hard Disk Drive simply by puling it in the direction of arrow.

After this we remove the screws from the bottom side, assigned with the red circles. With the red arrows are assigned the WLAN antennas that need to be detached from the WLAN Card.

After this we flip the laptop from the other side. First we remove the bezel that holds the power button, as show in the picture.

After this we remove the keyboard (beware for the flat cables).

After removing the flat cables assigned with red squares on the previous picture, next we release the WLAN antenna cables.

Next we remove the screw that hold the power button and couple other screws and flat cables assigned on the next picture.

Next we can remove the power button.

There are four screws that hold the screen assembly. We remove it and we can remove the screen assembly.

After removing the screen assembly we have this picture.

We remove the assigned screws and now we can remove the upper cover.

We remove the assigned screw and cable. Now we can lift the motherboard, but first we need to remove the cables that go to power jack and USB ports before we can remove the motherboard completely.

Here we have the motherboard removed from the laptop.

And from the other side:

Next we need to remove the heatsink and the cooler. We detach the cable and remove the assigned screws.

Under the heatsink are the chipset and the processor. We need to do a rework on the chipset, but before we do the rework we need to clean it from the old thermal silicone paste.

After this we do the rework.

After that we need to clean the cooler before we mount it again on the motherboard. There are four screws that need to be removed.

From the next picture we see why it comes to overheating of this laptop.

After all this done, we need only to assemble the laptop and the job is done.
The post HP Compaq Presario F700 overheating first appeared on Laptopish.com.

Here we have a HP Pavilion dv2000 with bad video card. When in this condition try to boot Windows we get a blue screen. In the moment when we turn it on, we see a green vertical lines on the black background.

After we try to boot Windows, we get a blue screen.

This is consequence of the overheating of the laptop. Now we need to disassemble the laptop and rework the chipset (because this laptop is with embedded graphics in the chipset).

First we remove the battery and the power source for safety.

After this we remove the covers of the memory, hard disk drive and the WLAN card. To do this, we need to remove the screws assigned with red circles on the next picture.

Next we remove the hard disk drive by pulling in the direction of the red arrow.

Next we remove the screws from the bottom.

Next we remove the WLAN card. First detach the antennas and then remove the screws.

After removing all the screws from the bottom, we can remove the keyboard.

But beware for the flat cable.

The flat cables can be removed as shown on the next picture. First remove the clips in the direction of the arrows and then the cable in the direction of the arrow.

Next we remove the power button and the hotkey buttons panel. But first need to detach two cables as shown on the picture.

Next we remove the cables that go to the screen assembly. That mean that we need to detach the flat signal cable, cable for webcam and the antennas, that are assigned on the next picture.

Next we detach the cables from the front audio panel and remove the screw from the motherboard.

Next we remove the WLAN switch by removing the two screws.

After this we can remove the motherboard. There are five screws that need to be removed how we can remove the cooler.

The fan jack is from the other side of the motherboard and need to be removed.

After removing the cooler we have this situation.

After cleaning we have this.

Now we do the rework of the chipset.

After this operation we need to clean the cooler. We remove the assigned screws.

After removing the fan, we have this. Here is the reason why it comes to the overheating.

After rework and cleaning we begin with applying a new thermal paste on the processor and new thermal adhesive on the chipset.

Next we mount the cooler.

After this we mount the motherboard in the laptop and repeat the process of disassemble only backwards.
The post HP Pavilion dv2000 blue screen first appeared on Laptopish.com.

Here we have a DELL Latitude D630. It’s a little 14.1 inch model, but it have a very good performance. It has a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M Graphic Card and Core2Duo T7300 Intel Processor (2.0GHz, 4MB cache). And everything is good until its cooler gets full with dust and it comes to overheating of the graphic card. Because the overheating we have this problem, as show on the next two images.

So we can fix this, we need to disassemble the laptop and do a rework on the VGA chip.

We gonna show this procedure step by step.

First we need to remove the cover assigned with red arrow on the next picture.

We do this as shown on the next two pictures.

After removing this cover, we can access the screws that hold the keyboard, assigned on the next picture with the red circles.

After removing these screws, we flip the keyboard. Beware of the flat cable. There is a lock that first need to be released,

and then we remove the flat cable by pulling in the direction of the red arrow.

Now we can remove the keyboard.

After that we need to remove the screen assembly. To do this, we first need to remove all the cables that go to the screen assembly – monitor flat data cable and all the cables that connect the antennas, assigned on the next picture with the red color.

After this, all cables that go to screen assembly are detached.

Next we only need to remove the screws from the bottom that hold the screen assembly.

It’s the same on the other side.

After removing these screws we remove the screen assembly.

Now we need to remove all the screws that are left from the bottom side, assigned on the next picture.

Next we remove the optical drive. Press the button assigned with the red arrow,

and it will come out.

Now just pull it out.

There are three screws from the upper side that need to be removed.

After this, we can remove the cover.

But beware of the CMOS battery,

and the touchpad+bluetooth cables.

After removing the cover we have this situation.

After this, we need to remove the the cooler. There are four screws that need to be removed.

After removing the cooler we can see the CPU, VGA and chipset.

As we see from the previous picture there is a thin copper plate on the VGA chip that full the gap between the cooler and the chip and help to improve the thermal conductivity. Now we can remove the copper plate.

After this step we need to clean the old thermal paste before we do the rework.

After this we do the rework of the VGA chip (GPU). Until he chip is cooled, we clean the cooler.

Before cleaning:

After cleaning:

After this step, we apply thermal silicone paste on the CPU and the GPU.

Then we mount the thin cooper plate on the top of the GPU.

After this we mount the cooler.

Here we have a DELL Inspiron N5010 with broken power jack.

We need to replace the power jack. To do this, we need to disassemble the laptop first.

So we begin with disassembling of the laptop. We start with removing of the ram memory cover. As shown on the picture, we need to remove the screw assigned with red circle.

Next we remove the screw that hold the optical drive and after that remove the optical drive in direction of the red arrow, as shown on the next picture.

Next we remove all the screws from the bottom assigned with red circles on the next picture.

On the four corners there are rubber cover that need to be removed first.

When we are done with this, we continue with the upper side. First we need to remove the keyboard. The keyboard is hold by couple holders (assigned on the next picture with the red arrows).

We use this tool how we can release the holders.

When we release the keyboard we detach the flat cable and the keyboard is free.

Under the keyboard there are couple screws that need to be removed (assigned with circles on the next picture) and two flat cables (assigned with squares on the next picture).

After this step we can remove the upper cover.

And these is what we have under the “hood”.

Now we need to remove the screen assembly. To do this, first remove the screws from the brackets, assigned on the next picture.

Next we detach the antennas from the WLAN card.

Also detach the flat cables for the display.

Now we can remove the screen assembly. Next we do is to remove these two screws on the next picture.

Next we remove the bracket from the back side.

After this done we need to lift the motherboard little bit to release the circuit board from the connector and we can remove the power jack board.

Here we have the power jack board out from the laptop. With red square is assigned the power jack.

At this point you decide are you gonna replace only the power jack or the whole power jack board. Replacing the whole power jack board is more easy but is more expensive. So that’s why we gonna replace only the power jack.

Here we have the new power jack compared to old power jack.

We first remove the old power jack, clean the board and than solder the new power jack.

After this, only thing that left is to assemble the laptop and the job is done.
The post DELL Inspiron N5010 power jack replacement first appeared on Laptopish.com.
